The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy, Hon. Dr. Doto Biteko, has met with the Deputy Minister of Energy of the United States, Hon. David Turk, to discuss various issues including investment in the energy sector in Tanzania.

The meeting took place on June 12, 2024, in Dar es Salaam and highlighted several areas of investment, including investment in alternative energy sources.

Dr. Biteko stated that the discussions between the two parties are based on the strong principles and vision of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, aimed at opening up the country in various sectors.

“These discussions are based on the vision of our President, who always emphasizes the improvement of economic diplomacy, which has enabled the opening up of the country in various fields, including discussions and visits of this nature,” he said.

He added that the visit of the US Deputy Minister of Energy and his delegation also focuses on investment in mining sectors such as Nickel and Graphite, which are used in energy production.

Furthermore, Dr. Biteko identified several strategic areas that enable Tanzania to attract investment, including political stability, diverse investment opportunities and attractions, robust legal systems, geographical criteria that connect Tanzania to other countries in East, West, and Southern Africa, the hospitality of Tanzanians, and existing natural resources.

For his part, the US Deputy Minister of Energy, Hon. David Turk, said their visit focuses on cooperation in various fields and adding value to various products, including minerals used in energy production.

Mr. Turk said, “Investment in these sectors will enable the exchange of skills and experience among experts from all relevant countries. This cooperation also contributes to increasing employment opportunities among people from partner countries and thus stimulates development.”

Tanzania is strategically seeking and establishing new sources of energy other than hydropower. These sources include solar energy, wind power, geothermal energy, and biogas.

The meeting was also attended by the US Ambassador to Tanzania, Dr. Michael Buttle Sr., senior officials from the United States, as well as heads of institutions and representatives of institutions under the Ministry of Energy.
