President Samia Suluhu’s leadership drives surge in meat Production in Tanzania.

The economic report for the year 2023 and the national development plan for 2024/25 have identified the livestock sector as a crucial area of focus due to its significant growth potential.

The report largely attributes this progress to the exceptional efforts of President Samia Suluhu Hassan in creating an environment conducive to investment through inclusive and investor-friendly policies. Under her responsive leadership, long-standing concerns of both large and small stakeholders in the livestock sector have been addressed.

During this Sixth Phase, there has been significant facilitation of the import and adoption of modern, high-quality seeds from abroad, as well as the development and/or construction of modern slaughterhouses. The Sixth Phase government has ensured to promote the production of livestock foods by encouraging the establishment of new factories for meat processing.

Increased productivity is also evident in the statistics showing a decrease in animal deaths from 27 percent in 2019/20 to 12 percent in 2023/24. This reduction, which is significant in a short period, stems from substantial investment by the Sixth Phase government in livestock treatment through higher education at the SUA and various livestock colleges across the country.

The report, which illustrates the economic situation for the year 2023 and the national development plan for the year 2024/25, has shown an increase in meat production from 702,000 tons produced in 2019/20 to 803,264 tons in 2023/24.

President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has demonstrated her commitment to boosting the livestock sector to capitalize on Tanzania’s potential as a country with abundant livestock for economic benefit, particularly through the sale of high-quality meat and competitive livestock seeds.

The government’s goal continues to be uplifting Tanzania’s livestock farmers by shifting from traditional to more efficient livestock farming practices.
